In the fast-paced world of science journalism, I learned to distill complex research into compelling stories that resonate with diverse audiences. Every interview with a scientist was much more than just gathering and telling information; it was a journey of discovery, dialogue, debate, and collaboration.
Leveraging my experiences as a science journalist, researcher, student, and instructor, my teaching philosophy is thus guided by the following principles: to encourage students to critically appreciate media’s profound impacts on our lives, draw from diverse backgrounds for collaborative learning, and feel empowered in their learning processes both inside and outside the classroom. These pillars guide my approach to creating dynamic, student-centered learning environments that meaningfully engage students with communication theories and practices. Through this approach, I aim to equip my students—whether they pursue careers in journalism, public relations, or otherwise—with the knowledge and skills necessary for thoughtful and ethical communication and media engagement.
